Manage departments

If you are a district textbooks manager, you can add, edit, and delete departments for your district on the Manage Departments page.

If you are a site administrator, you can add, edit, and delete departments for your district, and also designate them as local departments for your school.

District resources managers cannot update departments.

Departments are shared district-wide. Any department changes you make for the district (other than designating them as a local department at your school) immediately appear at all other schools in the district.

Adding departments at the district

Click Add Dept on the Departments page of the Admin tab.

Enter the display name for the new department and click Save. The new department appears in the list of departments.

Adding departments at a school

Under Additional Departments, Destiny® provides a list of all the departments in your district. Departments that are also in use at your school are listed under Local Departments.

To designate a department as a Local Department:

  1. Review the list of departments.
  2. Click Edit adjacent to a department that you want to add to your school.
  3. On the Edit Department page that appears, select the Local Department check box.
  4. If you wish to name the head of the department at your school:
    1. Click Select.
    2. On the Find Patron page that appears, enter a name or number in the Find Patron box and click Search.
    3. In the resulting list, click Select by the patron you want to name as Head of Department.
  5. To add the department, click Save on the Edit Department page.
  6. To return to Site Configuration, click Cancel.

If you have a department that is not listed under Additional Departments, you will need to add it:

  1. Click Add Dept.
  2. Enter the name of the department in the Department Name box.
  3. If you wish to name the head of the department, click Select.
  4. To add the department, click Save on the Add Department page.
  5. To return to Site Configuration, click Cancel.

Editing departments

To edit the name or change the head of department, click Edit adjacent to the department.

Deleting departments

Click the delete icon to delete a department.

If a department is associated with classes (Textbook Manager) or resources (Resource Manager) at your school, you will need to designate a replacement.

If a department, under Additional Departments, is in use by another school, you cannot delete it.
