Globally update title information
Global Update lets you quickly find and update author, series, and subject fields in your bibliographic records. This improves the consistency of the headings in your collection, making it easier for you and your patrons to find items.
| example: When you search for Huckleberry Finn, you may notice most of the copies are attributed to Mark Twain, but several of the older records in your collection refer to the author as Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Update lets you update all of these headings at one time rather than editing each record separately. |
You can also update the material type for titles you have recently added or updated, or update your obsolete series tags (440). This process automatically converts each 440 tag into a 490 and 830 tag.
| Note: Title records are shared across a district. Any change you make may affect other libraries. |

Destiny makes the following changes when converting each 440 tag:
- Combines the contents of subfields _a, _n, and _p from the 440 tag and places them into subfield _a of the new 490 tag.
- Copies the contents of subfields _v, _x, _6, and _8 from the 440 tag into the same subfields of the 490 tag.
- Copies the contents of all subfields from the 440 tag into the same subfields of the 830 tag.
- Sets the first indicator of the 490 tag to 1. The second indicator of the 490 tag is undefined.
- Copies the contents of the second indicator from the 440 tag into the second indicator of the 830 tag. The first indicator of the 830 tag is undefined.
- Removes leading articles from subfield _a of the 440 tag when copying the contents of subfield _a to the 490 tag.
Note: Destiny uses the number in the second indicator of subfield _a to identify leading articles. If a number is set in the second indicator of subfield_a, that number represents how many characters Destiny considers to be a leading article.
- Does not remove leading articles when copying the contents of subfield _a to the 830 tag.
