Calculate library loan periods
  • Open: Choose this setting if you want Destiny to calculate due dates based on your loan periods using only days that are open on your Calendar.
  • Calendar: Choose this setting if you want Destiny to calculate due dates based on your loan periods using both open and closed days on your Calendar. If a due date falls on a closed day, the due date is set to the next open day.

Editing this setting does not change the due dates of any copies that are currently checked out. It only affects future checkouts.

Examples:

  • If your library is open 5 days a week and you want a loan period to be 2 weeks:
    • If you choose Open, set the loan period to 10 days.
    • If you choose Calendar, set the loan period to 14 days.
  • Your library is typically open 5 days a week. It will be closed March 14-22 for spring break. A student checks out a book with a 14-day loan period on March 4.
    • If you choose Open, because the due date calculation does not include closed days, the book would be due March 31.
    • If you choose Calendar, Destiny counts all dates on the Calendar (open and closed), so the due date would be March 23 (the first open date after the calculated due date).
      Calendar with March 22-30 closed.
