Guidelines
  • Distinctive titles are special titles found on such items as annual reports, yearbooks, or conference proceedings in addition to the regular title when an issue is dedicated to a particular theme.
  • Distinctive titles are entered in the 246 field if the individual volume is likely to be known by the special title.
  • Subfield _f is always used with a distinctive title.
  • A caption title is a title printed at the head of the first page of text.
  • A running title is the title printed on the top or bottom margin of each page of a publication.
  • Before Format Integration, varying titles were entered in the 740 tag.
  • There is no period at the end of this field unless the last word is an abbreviation, initial/letter, etc.
