| Guidelines |
- Genre terms give a broad subject area which
helps a patron locate items written in the same style or categories
(e.g., romantic fiction; fantasy fiction; love stories, epic literature,
etc.).
- Form terms are specific kinds of materials that
are distinguished by examination of their physical character, the order
of information within them, or the subject of their intellectual
content (e.g., diaries, journals, questionnaires, time
sheets, etc.).
- Standard published lists such as "Guidelines on Subject Access to
Individual Works of Fiction, Drama, etc." (available from the
American Library Association) or "The Library of Congress subject
headings" must be used for the genre and form terms and this list is
identified in subfield _2.
