Generate a Search Statistics report

The Basic Search statistics report lets you examine the terms entered most often by your patrons in Catalog > Library Search > Basic Search tab.

You can view the search terms that produced results, those that did not, or both. In addition, you can limit the report by search type or date range.

To generate the report:

  1. Select Reports > Library Reports.
  2. Under Statistics, click Search Statistics.
  3. Do any of the following:
    FieldThen...
    ForSelect a search type, or to include all types in the report, leave the drop-down at Any.
    searchesSelect search terms with results, without results, or both.
    Show the topSelect the number of search terms you want in the report.
    Date range

    Enter a range.

    Notes: You can limit to one date or a range.

    • All dates: Leave both fields blank.
    • One date: Enter the same date in both fields.
    • Up to and including a specific date: Leave the From field blank, and enter it in the to field.
    • A specific date and all those after it: Enter it in the From field, and leave the to field blank.
  1. Click Run Report.
Note: To change the length of time Destiny stores search term data, review the Store search statistics data option in Admin > Site Configuration > Catalog tab.

Report Contents

The report lists the top terms and the number of times each term was used, in descending order.

If any limiters were used in the search, such as Accelerated Reader, Reading Counts, or Awards, limiter names appear beneath the search term.

Destiny stores the following terms used during a Basic Search, the number of times it was used, and whether or not it produced results:

  • A term entered, whether spelled correctly or incorrectly.
  • A refined term that is different from the original term entered.
  • A Did you mean? suggestion when a patron clicks Go.
  • The term originally used that a patron repeats through Library Search History.

Destiny stores the terms for local searches only.

Destiny does not store any information when a patron clicks an entry on Browse Subjects or a link on a Title Details page.

The data storage is not case-sensitive. A term appears on the report with the capitalization of the first instance of the term. For example, if the term bears is entered as bEARS, bears, and BEARS, the report displays the first usage:
